Welcome
to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.
Today
we’re presenting Author: Jennifer Denys
1)
Have you always
wanted to be an author?
Yes, even as a youngster
I was writing. I remember aged about 14 I wrote a play for the local kids
called 'Roberta Hood and her Merry Ladies'! We then performed it - I was the
director AND author AND leading lady!!
But it wasn't until the
advent of ebooks and any length being acceptable and discovering the novella
that I finally found my preferred writing length.
2)
What genre(s) do
you write?
I write erotic romance -
and within that I like to develop myself as an author and try different sub
genre. So I have several BDSM stories published, some contemporary that I call
my 'romantic comedies', three sci-fi, three paranormal, and my first gay story
(Alien Manhunt) is out next month. My latest book ‘Torn Between Two Lovers’
crosses genres – it is a werewolf story set in a werewolf BDSM club!
3)
Have you ever
self published?
Nope. Too much hard
work. I like to spend my time writing.
4)
Who or what
inspired you to write your first book?
If you are referring to
my first published book 'Just Good Friends' that is dedicated to all my fav sci
fi authors. The hero in that discovers the heroine has a secret stash of erotic
romances and instead of reading the latest sci-fi he persuades her to discuss
her fav erotic romances. One thing leads to another and they start practising
scenes from those books. All of them are loosely based on real erotic romances
that I love from authors like Debra Glass, Janine Ashbless, Mari Carr and
several others.
5)
How many hours in
a day might you write?
It varies. I work full
time with a long commute so most evenings I am too tired. I try to pace myself
and only write at the weekend - but even then it depends how much energy I
have. Of course, if I come up with a fabulous idea I may have a desperate need
to sit down immediately I arrive home and get it written - or at least, get the
idea plotted before I lose the inspiration!
6)
Are you a plotter
or a pantser?
Both. LOL. I write up
the plot as if it was a synopsis or blurb and spread that over the number of
chapters I usually write (which will depend on how many characters - so for MF
stories maybe 10 or 12 chapters, but for MFM or more it could be 15-18
chapters. This is so I can give equal points of view to each character). By
spreading it out I make sure I don't have all the sex scenes, or action scenes,
at the beginning, or end. Then I just start writing. So in the book just out
'Torn Between Two Lovers' I knew the main characters would rescue some kids
during a storm but I had no idea how or where until I started writing.
Often the characters or
plot will take a turn I hadn't expected, but that's the fun of writing.
7)
Do you ever find
yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your story it affects how
you relate to others?
Ah now, you will have to
ask my friends that question! LOL. I do have times when my pet rabbit, who is a
house rabbit, will jump on the laptop or Ipad. It's her way of saying, "I
want some attention now!"
8)
Are you in any of
your books?
There are aspects of my
character or looks in pretty much all of my heroines. The last book out 'Bounty
Hunters' Captive' had a heroine who was a sci-fi geek. Need I say more.....
9)
What do your
friends and family have to say about your writing?
I’ve had a variety of
comments from, "You dark horse, I didn't know you had it in you" to
"You're my auntie. I don't want to know you have sex." This was from
my niece who is only nine years younger than me. *roll eyes* I haven't told her
half what I do to research my stories. Particularly the BDSM ones.......
10) Please
share an excerpt from your book that totally spoke to you when you put the
words down on paper.
From: (insert title of book and add in cover here) ‘Torn Between
Two Lovers’. I really loved playing off different aspects of the story – one of
the heroine’s lovers is a werewolf, the other a human, one into BDSM, the other
into sensation play, one loves nature, the other hates it. Both appeals to the
heroine for different reasons and she finds it hard to choose. Available from http://www.bookstrand.com/torn-between-two-lovers
The rain
lashed at Evie’s face as she exited her car, hitting her cheeks like pinpricks,
and she turned away, causing her hair to blow into her eyes. Irritated, she
swiped it away with a growl.
“Dammit!”
Like members
of her wolf family, she abhorred storms. It didn’t matter when she was in her
wolf self as her fur was thick and waterproof, but when it was turning into a
gale like this one was, she instinctively wanted to find her fellow wolves and
curl up under the pines, noses tucked in, sharing heat, staying safe.
Instead she
was in her human form about to visit Jace.
Things had
got better with Stefan. In the last week he had worked hard to refresh her
submissive training, and it had been successful. She seemed to have gotten past
her fears. In the meantime, he was somehow gentler than he had been before,
more caring. It was a welcome surprise. Evie wondered if it was because of the
attack or because he feared her leaving him for Jace.
But whether
to marry him or not was still up in the air, and she knew he desperately wanted
an answer from her. He had even gone as far as telling her that he would take
no other submissives if she was his mate as well as his sub.
“Really?” She
had been skeptical.
He had cupped
her face. “If that’s what it takes for you to be my mate.”
Evie believed
him, but somehow, her past jealousies didn’t matter that much—except Brenda.
She would always be the thorn in Evie’s side. The issue instead was which of
her lovers she would miss more if she had to give one up. That was why she was
now standing outside Jace’s front door—to make a decision one way or another.
Meanwhile,
part of her was apprehensive that Jace wouldn’t want to see her or his leave
was about to come to an end. She wondered if she had told him she loved him
when they’d been together if it would have made a difference.
Evie gave a
wry grin. The ideal situation would be to have the two men, like Tasha had her
four. She’d have the best of both worlds then, Stefan and the BDSM, Jace and
the romance—except that Stefan would never allow it. She was also concerned
what Stefan would say if he found out where she was now.
The wind
changed direction at that moment, and a huge gust blew her forward just as Jace
opened the door. Bracing herself for hard wood, instead she landed in a pair of
soft arms. A welcoming embrace, she thought. Or maybe that was just wishful
thinking.
“Whatever are
you doing out here, Evie? For God’s sake, come on in.”
He ushered
her inside and then struggled to close the door against the wind before turning
around to face her.
Evie didn’t
say a word, just drank in the gorgeous sight of him. His dark hair glittering
with raindrops, eyes that seemed confused, yet pleased to see her.
“It’s hell
out there!” He smiled and shook his head to rid himself of the water in his
hair.
Her heart
fluttered. It was such a wolf thing to do she had to remind herself that he was
human.
Clearing her
throat, she finally responded. “It certainly is.”
Jace stood
for a moment. “Um, as much as it’s wonderful to see you, why are you here?”
Evie
shrugged. “I missed you,” she said in a quiet voice.
He thumbed
over his shoulder, indicating outside, and grimaced. “And is the big guy, Mr.
Rock-hard-muscles-who-will-smash-me-to-pieces or tear-me-limb-from-limb, gonna
turn up next?”
She chuckled
at his description of Stefan. Poor Jace had yet to see Stefan’s softer side.
“Probably not.”
Jace lifted
an eyebrow. “I was hoping it would be a ‘definitely not.’ I adore that you are
here, but I also value my life, sweetheart.”
Closing her
eyes, she bowed her head, trying to blink back tears. She had to make a
decision. And make it now. Stefan or Jace? Rough or smooth? Dominant or
submissive? Werewolf or human? She loved Stefan desperately, and she loved Jace
equally.
10) Which actor/character(s) would play the
starring role? (you can insert pics or just names or both here)
I would have
actress, Blake Lively playing Evie (tall, slender, ash blonde, mid twenties):
Actor Dolph
Lungren (as he looks here in his younger days!) playing werewolf Stefan (dark
blond, very tall, hunky, 32, arrogant):
And actor Will
Forte playing human, Jace (dark, same height as Evie, average body for a young
male in his late twenties, good looking):
