Action, Romance and Vodou for Friday!

Blurb:

Vodou stole her life. A gay ghost stole her boots. And the man who stole her heart stole her memories. Kena plans to get it all back.
Ex-cop Kena's life is filled with regret, beer, and Cheetos. That is, until her ghostly roomie sends her dumpster diving, leading her to a sexy stranger named Luc and a fate she'd rather not remember. As Kena's memories resurface, so do her feelings for Luc, the man she's secretly been in love with for the last thousand years. And he needs her for more than a stroll down memory lane.
Vodou spirits, known as Loa, have been trapped in human form, and are trying to make their way back to the spirit world. But Luc's brother is possessed by a vengeance demon conjured at the hands of NOLA's crime syndicate kingpin. Saving him means damning herself to a spirit prison in a loveless, arranged union with the very man she's supposed to rescue. But not helping Luc's brother sentences him to death, leaving New Orleans in the hands of black magick, and losing Luc forever.

Q) How did you dream up the dynamics of your characters? Originally the story was going to be completely different when I wrote the first 5000 words or so of the book. But after I came back from the 2014 Romantic Times convention in New Orleans, I was inspired to write something with a Vodou/NOLA flair. So the book took a twist and became so much more than I ever imagined. I wanted a strong heroine and an alpha male. But Luc ended up being more of an Alpha/Beta blend. He's not really one or the other. He's quite complex. Kena ended up being a witty heroine who took things into her own hands.

Q) Do you have any habits that get you in the writing frame of mind? Music is my biggest influence. I listened to mainly instrumental gaming soundtracks while writing. But one of my Critique Partners burned me a CD of music she thought would be perfect for this book, and it was filled with great songs by The Black Keys, Rolling Stones, Zepplin, Jack White and Muse. It ended up really making scenes come alive for me.

Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books? In this book I tried to make the characters reflect their Vodou based deities. I did take some artistic liberties and spun a few things, but I did a lot of research to make sure a lot of the intricacies of their actual descriptions and quirks made it into the story.

A great Hump Wednesday feature!

Blurb
Their world is crumbling on the King's shoulders.
Elliot is missing.
George has failed and his demons are threatening to swallow him whole.
Jesse's life is slipping through his fingers.
Zac is doing everything he can, but he's plagued with flash backs of a life he can't remember.
Can they get it together to save themselves or Elliot?
Excerpt
It was dark when he stepped out into the back entrance of the penthouse. His footsteps echoed through the halls as he walked. George should be in bed as he was generally an early riser, but Jesse half expected him to be consoling his pain with a slave.
He paused in front of the play room, swallowing hard. What if his actions had been the final straw in George moving on? What if...
It was too painful to finish the thought. He set his hand on the handle, telling himself he could face what he found inside. He turned it silently and pushed the heavy door forward. It was dark inside, only the lights of the city illuminating the toys spread over the massive wall. The door was soundproof, but now that it was open, all he heard was the light snore of a slave. He closed the door quickly and then pressed a hand into his aching chest. He stalked forward, seeing the flicker of a fire on the wall as he approached the living room.
He stepped around the corner to find George looking pensive staring into the fire, drink in hand. He paused, waiting for an invitation. One never came. George acted as though he didn't see him. Jesse opened his mouth, but he didn't know what to say. There wasn't an apology that could even cover the pain he'd put George through.
He fell to his knees. "Forgive me," he whispered.
George didn't respond. Jesse fell forward pressing his forehead into the cool hardwood floor. Warm hands closed around his arms, dragging him to his feet, and he was enveloped in Georges arms. His eyes started to mist, and he couldnt catch a full breath. It was all too much to bear. Hed left his heart when he left George, and there were no words for what it felt like to be back here. He buried his face in Georges neck and wrapped his arms around him. George kissed every spot he could reach on Jesse in their position.
It was so much more than dominant and submissive like this. Jesses heart ached. The pain radiated through his bones. Hed been holding off losing it for so long he hadnt even realize how bad the pain had gotten, how numb hed been.

Monday's Scintillating Interview with Olivia R. Burton!

Welcome to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.

Today we’re presenting Author: Olivia R. Burton

1) Have you always wanted to be an author?
Most of my life, yes! I started writing young (bad fanfic, of course) and got addicted. It’s such a great escape.
2) What genre(s) do you write?
I write Urban Fantasy, though Rattle is in the sub-genre Paranormal Romance. I’ve dabbled in Fantasy, but I mostly stick to UF.
3)  Have you ever self published?
No, I haven’t wanted to brave it. I think it would cost money that I don’t have right now to really make sure the book gets great editing and a beautiful cover.
4) Who or what inspired you to write your first book?
Well, I was still in middle school so my first non-TV-fic story was basically a rip-off of Christopher Pike’s The Last Vampire. Once I got that out of my system, I started working on original work and finished a fantasy story based around the signs of the Zodiac. I mean to finish rewriting it, but it’s become a monster of a book so I’ve been putting it off.
5) How many hours in a day might you write?
When I was writing a lot I would usually write like it was a full-time job. I’d generally write about six or eight hours a day. It’s been awhile since I’ve been that productive, though.
6) Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I’m sort of in between. I generally have a whole idea of the book before I start, but I don’t outline or plot every chapter. Too, there have been several books that ended up not being what I came up with at all, but I think they are the better for it.
7) Do you ever find yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your story it affects how you relate to others?
Not usually. When I’m at the computer writing, that’s all I’m doing. I completely lose myself in the book and live in that world. Outside of that time, though, I’m the same person whether in the middle of a story or not.
8) Are you in any of your books?
Sort of! The fantasy story I wrote in high school started out as an adventure I wrote starring all of my friends, including me. I took the most noticeable and interesting traits of each of my friends—for good or for bad!—and created characters around those. The character I based loosely on me had my name, but I wouldn’t say she’s me anymore. I’ve since changed her name to reflect that. And because it’s probably tacky to name a character after yourself.
9) What do your friends and family have to say about you writing?
They’ve always been very supportive, even reading some of my really bad writing back when I was younger. They’ve promoted me to friends and extended family when I’ve had books come out. My ex-husband was always really understanding whenever I was in that “The book’s almost finished!” groove and I needed to hole up and write for a few hours after getting home from work.
10) Please share an excerpt from your book that totally spoke to you when you put the words down on paper.
From: Rattle

I really love every scene with Finn being an incompetent doofus, but as for touching scenes, I’m quite fond of the first time Veruca shows Finn her powers and shares a bit of her magic with him.
----
“This beats movie night,” Finn mumbled as he lay splayed out on Veruca’s bed. She laughed, turning to kiss his chest, before propping her chin up to catch his eye. He shifted as much as he could manage, returning her admiring smile.
“You’re sure you don’t want me to have a horror movie sent up?” she asked, walking her hand along the bed as if she’d go for the phone on the nightstand. “Something really bloody and wretched? With exploding eyeballs and—”
Determined to stop her from making him picture anything worse, he gripped her hips, sliding her up his body to force her mouth close enough to catch. She giggled into the kiss, running her fingers through his hair.
“I’ll take that as a no,” she said when he let her lips free. Opening his eyes, he met hers, content to just watch her for a spell. They stayed close, sweaty and satisfied, watching each other in silence until she took a deep, contented breath and pushed upward. She regarded him for a few moments before tipping her head.
“You couldn’t control that zombie.”
“Ah.” He shifted uncomfortably, resting his hands on her upper thighs. “I can’t always, no. Sometimes they get away from me.”
“Beatrice didn’t?”
“No, she was easy. She was older, her—Well.” He dropped his eyes, unfocused for a bit. “I didn’t have trouble with her.”
“It’s curious you couldn’t control Clay,” she said thoughtfully as she sat up. “You have the power to control so much more than one old lady, Finn.”
He mulled that over for a moment. “Five old ladies?”
“An army,” Veruca said, her lips quirking. He squinted, sure she was putting him on.
“Of old ladies?”
She laughed, the motion doing wonderful things to her bare breasts. Finn wondered briefly if he was ready to go again, or if she was at least. He wouldn’t mind just pleasing her, not just as thanks for all she’d done but just because he wanted to get lost in the sounds of her breathy moans.
“You should see what I see when I look at you,” she said, leaning forward just enough to press both hands against his chest, right over his heart. He looked up into her dark eyes, his brows lifting.
“I know what I look like,” he assured her, grinning as if in on the joke of his own arrogance. “It’s spectacular.”
“Not just your pretty face, darling,” she said, shaking her head. “Your soul. In fact ...” She went quiet, biting her lip as if considering something daring. After a few moments, she gave a nod, taking his hand off her thigh and lifting it to mirror her position. He fought the urge to slide his hand just a little further left to cup her breast.
“Take a breath,” she murmured, “and remember that you trust me.”
“I do?” he asked, hoping she could tell he was joking. She was already concentrating on something else, her expression gone a touch serious, her gaze on his chest. They were both quiet for a bit, Veruca’s hands warm on his skin, her lips slightly parted as she worked at something Finn hadn’t figured out. When he felt a jolt in his chest, a tug at his heart he was sure he recognized, he frowned. “What—”
A glow started at Veruca’s heart, a slow hum that seemed to have a pulse like listening to the heartbeat of a sleeping lover. He blinked, shook his head at first, sure he was imagining the sensations, but when Veruca smiled, her eyes roaming to his, he realized this was what she’d wanted him to trust.
“You see it?” she asked, turning her attention to the wide windows looking out over the city. “You see them?”
“I ...” Finn trailed off, realizing her pulse wasn’t the only one. There were a myriad of glowing heartbeats all around, most of them small and fast. They moved outside the hotel, hopping along the ledge, little golden orbs inside the dark shapes of birds. He turned his gaze back to Veruca’s face, but found it pulled to her chest once again, fascinated by the thin line of glowing light that trailed from her in a loose line to his heart, to a glow of his own.
It was bright, thick, like a knit case holding his heart safe in his chest. It looked similar to hers, but brighter, weaved tighter where the line from her heart touched it, but frayed in certain spots.
“What’s—”
“That’s your soul,” Veruca said, lifting her hand to run her finger down the line between them. Finn jolted when he felt the motion as a tiny vibration in his chest. “And mine. This is your power, how you control the dead.”

11) Which actor/character(s) would play the starring role? (you can attach pics or just insert names or both- pics can compete with the cover, but also pull in a lot of attention. Sometimes a pinterest link works well too, up to you)
Casting! I haven’t thought of casting for my books in years, actually. For Veruca, it’s difficult because she was born in Venezuela and being here in America, I haven’t been exposed to many Latin actresses. I could see Diane Guerrero in her role, I think. She’s on Orange is the New Black (or was the last time I was keeping up with it), and she’s beautiful and seems very confident.

Finn was partly inspired by Colin O’Donoghue, both because he’s dreamy and because I came up with the idea for Rattle shortly after visiting Ireland. I was (and still am) in total and complete love with the country and its people. It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited and I didn’t meet a single rude person the entire time I was there. O’Donoghue popped up on Once Upon A Time with his sexy smirk and baby blues and I went, “Well, I need someone that hot in my books.” Finn’s not as competent or smooth as Hook, though, that’s for sure.
(Finn seen here trying to remember how to read)

Monday's Scintiallating Interview with Violet Joicey-Cowan!

Welcome to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.

Today we’re presenting Author: Violet Joicey-Cowen.

Hi, everyone. Thank you to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot and its authors for having me on my Captive Mates blog tour and giveaway.

To enter the giveaway, find the word of the day in this post and then head over to my blog (links below). Click on the blue Rafflecopter link at the end of the Captive Mates Blog Tour post and it will tell you what to do and all the ways to enter (some of which can be done daily).

1)      Have you always wanted to be an author?
I’ve always wanted to be a writer. No, I’ve always been a writer and dreamed of getting something published one day. I never really thought it would happen though as I didn’t think I would muster the courage to send anything off.
2)      What genre(s) do you write?
I write mostly MM romance in various sub genres, Contemporary, Paranormal, Sci-fi/Fantasy.
3)      Have you ever self published?
Yes. I have self-published two stories, but have recently made the decision to withdraw them both and rework and expand them so I can submit them both to a publisher. I think both stories and their characters deserve more than I have done with them so far. It has been a good experience though and I am not opposed to self-publishing again if it is right for me and the story.
4)      Who or what inspired you to write your first book?
I have no idea what inspired my first attempt at writing, I just remember the burning need to get it down on paper (as it was at the time with no laptop). That burning need to write has never left me.
My first published book, Alpha Second, was also both my first finished story and my first MM. I had found the MM genre only a few weeks before and I just woke up one day with the first line in my head. I had no idea where the story was going or who my characters were, but I sat down and several thousand words later I had the whole world vividly imprinted on my brain. My new book is the 5th in that series, with many more planned.
5)      How many hours in a day might you write?
It depends on how well the words are flowing. If it is not going well then I don’t push it and might not write at all (though I do try and get something done, even if it is just additions to my character database or updating my website). If it is going well then I can sit down after the school run in the morning and have to drag myself away from my laptop when my alarm goes off for the school pick-up. I will then sit back down again and not leave my computer until my son comes in telling me he is starving and its supper time and I realise I haven’t eaten all day…
6)      Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Almost total pantser. I will have a vague idea for where the plot will be going, and I make lots of notes if I am working on a different story and get something in my head I don’t want to forget, but I mostly just sit down at my laptop and let it happen. If I plot the storyline out on paper/computer too much then the words just stop coming. I also have to write the first draft linearly, though I can switch a few things around and add stuff in later, I need to write the first draft from start to finish. I can’t jump around in the narrative and finish (for example) a scene in chapter six before I have written chapter two. It needs to happen in order for me.
7)      Do you ever find yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your story it affects how you relate to others?
Oh yes, most definitely! I get so lost in my book’s “world” I find it almost surprising sometimes when I realise everyone around me has no clue who all my characters are and how they live.
8)      Are you in any of your books?
As a whole person, no. There is no one character who is me, but there are bits of me in and things I have done in most of them. For instance, there is a bar called O’Neill’s in my Whithowe Forest Pack series and I have done a lot of bar work, so it was fairly easy to write the scenes set there and how the bar tender acted.
9)      What do your friends and family have to say about you writing?
They couldn’t be more supportive. My grandparents raised me and my grandmother has always said to me that I would never get anything published if I didn’t send something off. Last year we met up for a quick cuppa when she was in my area (we now live a couple of hours away, but I go see them as often as I can) and she made a point of saying how proud she was of me and everything I have accomplished.
I was terrified of how everyone would react when they learned I wrote MM. It wasn’t that I thought there was anything wrong with it, or that I really thought they would react badly. I don’t know why I was so nervous about it all. When I finally told them all, they were amazing. My grandparents, my mum, my son (he’s 13), and everyone else all know and are all so supportive. Even my next-door neighbour reads my books.
10) Please share an excerpt from your book.
From: Captive Mates, Whithowe Forest Pack #5.
Ari was woken by the sounds of a fight in the corridor. He recognised by now the sounds of fists hitting flesh with too much ease. Whoever was under attack sounded like he was giving back as good as he was getting. Ari turned a little and leaned up on his right elbow. He could hear more than a couple of people were involved in the scuffle, and grunts from several as they fought. Scents began to filter through the cracks around the door to him.
Mate! No, that’s not possible. Keiron is my mate and that isn’t him. The scent of whoever was out in the corridor was making his cat growling and lashing its tail inside him, urging him to go to them, to bite, to claim, and to defend. Someone was thrown against the door of his room and Ari jerked upright, ignoring the pains in his shoulder and the rest of his body. Then the fight stopped. Or at least whoever it was stopped fighting back, suddenly passive. A few more dull thuds and grunts sounded, and then a key slid into the door lock and turned. The three bolts were shot back and the door flung open. A man stumbled through, helped on his way by a hefty shove from one of the men now crowding into the doorway.
“Hey look, Ari, you have company!” They all laughed uproariously.
What’s funny about that? Ari thought, staring at the blond man who had fallen in a heap on the floor, trying not to look too interested in case they decided to put them in separate rooms. He couldn’t hold back a growl when Aaron swung his foot back and booted the man in the ribs. He silenced himself quickly and kept his gaze away from Aaron so the beta would not see the rage simmering there.
The blond on the floor stiffened and his head snapped up toward Ari, eyes wide and nostrils dilated. Ari felt a moment of panic that the guy would give something away to Aaron or one of the others. He realised this must have been the way Keiron felt all those months ago when he had laid eyes on Ari from his vantage point atop the building, a burning desire to go to him, but fear and worry about the consequences. The man lowered his head again and Ari breathed out slowly.
Aaron and his cronies left, closing the door and locking it behind them. The blond opened his mouth to speak, but Ari quickly held up a hand to keep him quiet for a few more moments. As soon as he could no longer hear footsteps moving away, he relaxed.
“Are you hurt badly?” he asked.
“Only my pride,” the man replied, with a rather pained grin. He winced, holding an arm to his ribs as he clambered to his feet. “I’m Isaac. You’re Ari?” At Ari’s nod, Isaac gave a dark laugh. “Of course you are. Well, I was supposed to be here to rescue you.” Isaac had an accent.
“Huh? How did you even know I was here? Are you English?”
“Yes, I am. It was Keiron. He got a message out to a member of my pack.” Ari had no idea how Keiron had managed that, but he hoped his mate was safe and hadn’t gotten caught doing something stupid.   Isaac was sniffing the air with a frown.
“Um, don’t take this the wrong way, but…are you my mate? Keiron said you were his mate in his message, but the way you smell… God, my lion is going nuts.”
“My panther, too. Keiron is my mate. I… He must be our mate. I can’t see fate making him and I mates, and you and I mates, without all three of us being mated to each other.” Ari felt weird discussing it like this. It all felt so clinical and rational.
“No wonder my lion has been so restless. He must have been picking up something from you both since I got here. I caught your scent properly when they had me outside in the corridor, stopped fighting back because I wanted in here where they were trying to put me.”
“And now we’re both screwed.” Ari gave him a wry grin. “You might as well come sit down.” He sat up properly and moved over making it obvious he wanted Isaac on the bed with him, not on the one across the room.
“Oh, don’t worry. As long as they don’t do us in in the next few days, my pack’ll come looking. Rescuing people is kind of what they do. I was an idiot to come on my own.” Isaac limped over and lowered himself gingerly to the bed. He sat close, and Ari could feel the warmth his body gave off. He could feel his blood heading toward his groin. Hmmm… maybe getting him to sit next to me was a bad idea. I mean, God knows he smells amazing, but we can’t do anything. Not without Keiron knowing. That would feel like betraying him. But, hell! I don’t know if I can stop myself from touching this guy.
“So why did you?” Focus. Must focus on the conversation.
Isaac shifted, next to him, then again. Ari looked down at where their arms were barely touching, his own brown skin against the pale, creaminess of Isaac’s. Looks good. Smells good. I’m so fucked. Then Isaac rose to his feet again and moved away from the bed. He hobbled over to the other cot and sat back down, looking at Ari dryly. “Sorry, no way I can concentrate if I sit next to you. All I want to do is push you back, rip your clothes off, and lick you from one end to the other.”

10)  Which actor/character(s) would play the starring role?
Given the chance, I would totally have Justin Hartley play Isaac. He was my inspiration for the way Isaac looks. You can see him and my inspiration for both Keiron and Ari on my characters inspiration board on Pinterest.
11)   Is there anything else you would like to add?
The word of the day is: Adjust.

Thank you again so much for having me here today!

A Thriller for Hump Wednesday!

Madison Monroe is an anthropology prodigy.  She’s poised to graduate with a double major.  She’s published in scholarly journals and archeology magazines.  With limited field experience, the crowning jewel for her graduate school application is an upcoming dig in Normandy. And she just got arrested for underage drinking. Less than a month before she turns twenty-one.

Now, instead of taking part in her dream dig, she’s kicked off the crew and barely escapes academic probation.  Her only option for her application is a routine archeological survey in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Once in Gettysburg, though, the “simple” dig isn’t exactly what it seems.  Madison can feel a presence watching her and can hear voices of the dead calling from the battlefield.  And, when she discovers a long buried secret at the Spangler Farm, she inadvertently sets off a chain of events that will put everything—including her life—on the line.
