Author Interview with Jenny May

Welcome to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.

Today we’re presenting an author who writes under four! pen names. Read on…

1)      Have you always wanted to be an author?
I was a reader before the thought of becoming an author ever teased my mind. Historical romance was my passion, and I was devouring a book a day. It wasn’t until someone finally asked me, why don’t you just write one, that I gave it serious thought. Their question sparked something inside me and the next day I threw myself into my first story. It took me exactly twenty-three days, but late that night, I typed The End, and knew it was the beginning of a whole new chapter in my life. Now I write under four different names. (A lot, I know, lol) Jennifer Salaiz, Jenny May, Alaska Angelini, and Jennifer May for paranormal romance.
2)      What genre(s) do you write?
Mainly erotic romance. Most of them are paranormal. But I also write contemporary erotica, paranormal romance, and right now I’m working on a western historical romance that I’m excited about.
3)      Have you ever self-published?
I have! Two Doms, One Night is the only book I’ve self-published so far. I’m also working on a dark erotic romance that I hope to publish by the fall of 2014.
4)      Who or what inspired you to write your first book?
Passion Projected was inspired by a dream. My ex-husband woke me up in the middle of the night to tell me about how he’d seen someone floating above me while I slept. Although the dream was absolutely ridiculous and weird, the beginning had stuck with me and reminded me about something I’d learned years before. Astral projection, but more importantly…dream lovers. My mind was nonstop thinking about it, and before long the words to Passion Projected were pouring from me. It also goes with my newest series Astral Awakenings under my Jenny May name.
5)      How many hours in a day might you write?
Wow, lol. Most days I’m writing off and on from nine or so in the morning, and I usually don’t stop until around midnight. Sometimes later. But when I’m in a part I can’t break from, it’s non-stop within those time frames. Deadly Desires (The Soul Collector 3) was one of those books. The novel took me eight days to write, revise, edit, and send off. I was taken over, putting in around eighteen hours a day, and loved every minute of it.
6)      Are you a plotter or a pantster?
I’m a little of both, but I’d say I’m definitely more of a pantster. I usually start with the first sentence and let it take off from there. Where it leads me is an exciting journey. I love being just as surprised as the reader.
7)      Do you ever find yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your story it affects how you relate to others?
All the time! When I’m writing, having a conversation with me is pretty much pointless. The moment someone starts talking, I find my mind drifting. I don’t know how many times I’ve been faced with a long, awkward stare. Oh, I’m sorry, did you just ask me something? Yeah…that one.
8)      Are you in any of your books?
Me, as a complete person, no. One of my readers, who happens to know me really well, did point out a lot of things about me she finds scattered through my writing. A lot more of me goes into my books than I first thought.
9)      What do your friends and family have to say about you writing?

I’ve been fortunate to have very supportive friends and family. My mother’s opinion matters to me the most, and the fact that she couldn’t be any more proud makes me the happiest person in the world.

10)      Please share an excerpt from one of your books or a WIP that totally spoke to you when you put the words down on paper.
The constant tapping of the pen had Barbara’s heart increasing faster than it already was. For a shrink, Dr. Natrol wasn’t a very good one. At least, not in her opinion. She’d never seen a psychologist before, but she was pretty sure he was supposed to be putting her at ease, not increasing her anxiety even more by drumming the fountain pen against his knee.
For the third time he seemed to catch himself and pause, bringing his hand to rest behind the clipboard he held. “So tell me, Barbara, how many of these dreams did you say you had?”
If he wanted a number, he was asking the wrong person. Although she couldn’t remember exactly when they’d began, they’d continued now for years. “I’m not sure. I think they began when I was about twenty-four.”
“And you’re thirty-three, now.” He hesitated, and then started writing on the paper.
“Yes.”
Sweat was beginning to collect between her breasts, and she shifted in her seat. Why had she even thought to come here? Sure, dreams happened to everyone. And maybe a few even had the same type of ones repeatedly, like her. But it wasn’t the content of what was in Barbara’s mind that had her running to the shrink. It was what had happened at the end that had scared the shit out of her.
“Why don’t you go over these dreams with me again? How do they usually begin?”
Flashes of her nude body sandwiched between two men while they touched and evoked pleasure she didn’t even know was possible had heat enflaming her skin. To think of speaking the words out loud was beyond terrifying. She wanted to stand and rush from the room. But this had gone on long enough. Something was happening inside of her mind, and she needed to know what it was.
“It always begins with darkness. My body feels itself wake up, but I can’t see. Suddenly, it’s as though I open my eyes, but my vision is different for a few seconds.”
He leaned forward. “But you say you’re awake before you can see.”
“Yes, I feel I am. My mind is aware that I’m awake, if that makes sense.”
“Please, go on.” Dr. Natrol’s hand began moving as he continued to write, but Barbara was too focused on the scene that filled her vision. The dreams seemed so real. Like the events had really happened. And while she stared at herself, head back, moaning with desire, it was as though she could reach out and touch her and her men. It might have been somewhat dark where she was, but she could still see the two figures who caressed every inch of her body so lovingly. Their faces. Their eyes. In her mind, she knew them on some other level that was incomprehensible for her to understand. And she wanted to know how.
“Well, I open my eyes, and I can feel myself floating. It’s like, I know I can fly, but I don’t want to. Instinctively, and I’m not sure how, I feel myself pulled to a place I’ve seen hundreds of times. And yet, I’ve never been there at all.”
“You say pulled. How so?”
Barbara blinked hard, breaking her focus from the men. “Like sucked across the span of miles at the speed of light.”
His mouth parted and he quickly closed it. When he lowered his head and began writing again, she swallowed hard. God, would he think she was crazy? Maybe she was being too trusting telling this doctor that she was seeing things. Even if it was in her dreams. Maybe he’d think there was something more wrong and lock her away.
Barbara quickly shook her head, trying more to convince herself. That was ridiculous. He wouldn’t do that. Would he? Surely not.
“Why don’t you describe this place to me? What does it look like? Are you alone?”
Again, the memories took over. She closed her eyes, giving herself to them freely. “The room is dark, but there are candles always lit. I believe the walls are a light color. But I’m not sure what shade it is.” Barbara tried paying attention to what she could remember and not focus on the men as one of them sucked her nipple into his mouth. These were just recollections. Nothing more. Her body sure was responding, though, as if it was still happening.
“There’s a dresser, with a large mirror. And”—she cleared her throat at the wetness that was increasing from her pussy by the second—“There’s a large computer desk, off to the side. I see two doors. One leads to a long hallway. The other goes out to a terrace.”
“So you’re in a bedroom?”
Barbara nodded, not trusting her voice just yet. One of the men kissed their way down her stomach, while the other continued to give her breast attention. Their hands were all over the place. It was hard to stay in this moment, knowing the doctor was waiting for her to continue. She didn’t want to. She wanted to bask in the pleasure all three of them were sharing.
“Have you been onto the terrace, Barbara?”
She forced her eyes open. “No.”
His gaze narrowed at her. “Then how do you know there’s one there?”
How did she? “I’m not sure. I just…do.”
“You said earlier that these dreams are sexual in nature. Are they always with the same person?”
Now this was where it was going to be hard for her to continue. Saying she was with two men was beyond embarrassing for her to admit. Hell, she hadn’t been with one man in the last five years, more less, two. At the same time, no less.
“Yes, the same people are always in my dream. They never change.”
“They. There’s more than one?”
She looked down, mortified. “Yes. There’s two men. Always the same two.”
There wasn’t so much as a pause in his questioning. “You’ve been dreaming of the two same men now for nine years. Have they always looked the same?”
The question threw her off. Barbara brought her eyes up to him and blinked as she recalled when the dreams first began. “No, they were younger, then.” Her hand subconsciously trailed down her face. “One’s a bit…scruffy. His beard is just a little more than a five o’clock shadow. It’s been that way for a few years. It used to be smooth at the beginning. The other one’s face is sometimes like that too, but mainly clean shaven for the most part.”
“How old would you say these men were if you had to guess?”
She shrugged, still studying their faces in her mind. “Mid-thirties. Maybe a little younger, but not by much.”
“Can you describe them to me?”
Barbara didn’t even break her assessment of their appearance. “One has dark hair. The others’ I want to say is lighter. Maybe dirty blond. It’s too dark to see the exact color. Their bodies…” A delicious shiver raced down to her core. “They’re very built. Wide shoulders. Big arms. The blond is a bit leaner, but looks very powerful. Tanned skinned for both of them.” She paused, as she made her way to their faces. “Their eyes glow, but there’s barely an illumination. Yet the colors are unmistakable. The man with the dark hair has the prettiest shade of blue. It’s very bright. And an emerald color for the blond. They almost look different than human eyes.” She stopped herself from going further as she connected stares with one of her men.
The connection she held with the dark haired one was so gripping it nearly took her breath away. She couldn’t get over the fact that it felt like he was looking right at her. In this very moment.
“Excellent. Now that we both know what your dream men look like, why don’t you try walking me through one of the dreams. You’re in the room you always go to. And you’re there with them. What happens, then?”

11)      Which actor/character(s) would play the starring role?

I’m not sure about actual actors, but if I had to pick someone to appear as my characters, I’d have to say, Traven, my alpha, would look like David Gandy. My other hero, Jackson, would be Jesse Pavelka.

Hot Heroes Love Children

Hot Heroes Love Children

When Melissa Keir asked me to appear on this blog to talk about heroes, I wasn’t sure what to talk about. Was I even a hero? All I’ve been is a husband and now father. But it got me thinking about what makes a hero—and yes, a dad is a perfect hero.

Dads are sexy. Just ask any woman who sees a guy holding a baby. Or in my case, kissing my lovely wife’s bulging pregnant belly. It’s because a guy who can love and snuggle with a new baby is the perfect man who will take care of not only the baby but also the mother of his child. That’s why a man out at the park with a baby is a chick magnet!

Being a dad means being a hero. You are your child’s hero. You want to put the world at their feet and protect them. And isn’t that what heroes do? Heroes are the guys who are willing to put their lives on the line for the people they love. Once you hold that child in your arms, the bond is amazing and you would do anything to make their life better than your own.

When I first laid eyes on my son, I couldn’t believe that miracle was a piece of me. He was perfect in every way. I had to thank Father Grissom for his intervention in the event. After all, if it wasn’t for him, I’d have still been in a coma. But thanks to him, I was able to be there for the birth of my son. Holding my little guy in my arms was the most amazing moment. It was as if I could bench press a mountain. However, I was so afraid that I’d do something wrong.

Do heroes have fears? You bet! They are heroes because they face their fears head on and still do what is right. In my case, it is changing those really stinky diapers at three in the morning so Sherri can catch some sleep. Have you smelled one of those loads? Ewww! So dads are heartthrobs and  heroes. Thank you for having me visit.

A Christmas Accident (spicy- Contemporary Romance)

Expecting her first child, Sherri Wilder Davison wants nothing more than to spend time with her father over the holidays, but fate has a way of changing her best-laid plans.
Adam Davison is willing to do anything to make his pregnant wife happy. He will face hell to have her home for the holidays.
For Sherri and Adam, the holidays are a time of celebration and love, but this Christmas will be unlike any they have ever faced.
When a horrible blizzard causes an automobile accident that puts the lives of those Sherri loves on the line, can a Christmas miracle save them?

EXCERPT:
Looking over at Adam, I’m amazed that such a handsome man could love me. Stubble showed on Adam’s rugged face. I liked the way the short growth of beard rubbed on my face when he nibbled on my ears. Adam’s dark brown hair was cut short, emphasizing his deep blue eyes and strong nose. The small dimple on his chin made him seem more approachable and much less serious. His tall stature and muscular body always made me feel precious yet delicate, like a porcelain doll, but Adam never treated me like anything other than a desirable woman.

“How are the roads? Do you think we can stop so I can use the bathroom? Your son is pushing on my bladder.” Wiggling in my seat, I tried to alleviate the uneasy pressure.

Adam looked over at me with a dreamy expression on his face. His gaze settled on my stomach as it undulated. “Sure, I could use some coffee. How are you feeling? Little Pea looks active tonight.”

“I’m okay except for the kicks to the bladder. I swear he’s practicing his temper tantrums so he has them right when he comes out. Oh Ricky, we are in so much trouble,” I replied with a silly high pitched whiney Lucille Ball-type voice, then smiled.

I am thankfully in the third trimester of my pregnancy. I’d passed the dangerous stage where many women miscarry as well as the dreaded morning sickness phase that sucks the very life out of a body. Now I had abundant energy and looked forward to finally getting ready to meet our son. We still had two more months to go but I already felt like a beached whale, not to mention the walking with a waddle. Adam loved talking to my stomach, he’d even been reading storybooks to our peanut each night.

Adam and I had eloped to Hawaii five years ago during our Christmas vacation. We’d kept our wedding private, only us. Today we are closer than most married couples, enjoying the same things, especially our cottage home on the Huron River, old movies, television shows, and snuggling up with a blanket on those cold Michigan nights.

While we both loved our families, neither one of us enjoyed traveling which became the basis for the fight. I’d won the the argument after the announcement of my father’s recent diagnosis. I’d spent hours on the phone with my sister, then on the internet gathering information on Alzheimer's. The dementia had already begun to kick in when Dad accidentally set fire to his home. Luckily, Syndie had already moved in with Dad and got him out of the house in time. My need for family had only become stronger since I’d learned about my pregnancy and the arrival of the first grandson.. I didn’t want my baby to miss out on his remaining grandparent.

Fear about my father never getting to meet or know my little peanut became a constant in my mind. Adam and I had distanced ourselves from our families over the years. We were always so happy spending time with just each other, we’d just never considered what those choices did to others. Having a baby changes things. My sister’s wedding invitation plus my dad’s diagnosis, well, both convinced me that we needed to get back to Ohio. Christmas seemed like a perfect excuse.

After pulling into the gas station, Adam stopped the car next to the pump. I grabbed my purse. “I’m going to use the bathroom, grab your coffee, then get a snack while you fill up. Is there anything else you want?” I walked over to Adam’s door as he let himself out.

Adam bent down to kiss my belly, making my muscles clench. How does such a beefy man do that yet still look so masculine?

“Why don’t you also grab me some pretzels. I don’t know if the coffee will be good on my empty stomach. But with the way the snow has been falling, I want to make sure we can take the turnpike rather than Route 2.”

Route 2 is known as Death’s Highway. The area of Route 2 between Bono and Sandusky claimed dozens of lives due to the large semi-trucks in addition to the awkward two lane road. People couldn’t see what was coming around the next bend so head-on collisions were frequent. The horrible blizzard-like conditions from Lake Erie only made the road more treacherous.

After grabbing the coffee, pretzels and some crackers for myself, then paying for them, I headed back to the car. The snow made the car hard to see from the door of the gas station. Driving in this mess wasn’t a comforting thought.

“Adam, the weather looks really bad. Maybe we should turn on a local radio station to check on the road conditions.”

Making slow progress, we listened to the bleak weather bulletin. Little did we know one single radio announcement would change our lives forever.

20 Questions with Melissa Keir

Playing Twenty Questions with Melissa Keir- Author

Which comes first, the story, the characters or the setting?  For me the story comes first.  It has to be compelling to me.

Are you in control of your characters or do they control you? The characters sometimes control me and other times…I guess they are just like my children!

How do you come up with the titles to your books? I like to look for a key phrase from the book or something unique about the story that makes a wonderful title.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a pop star!  But then I quickly realized that singing on my skateboard wasn’t going to make that happen, so I went into nursing and finally teaching.
Are you working on anything at the present you’d like to share with us? I am working on a story about a teacher who falls for a parent of one of her students.
Do you have any strange handwriting habits, like capitalizing all your “r”s or dotting your “I”s with heart (or anything like that)? When I actually use my own handwriting, I write in a mixture of cursive and print.  I tend to write quickly and it isn’t as neat as I’d like.
You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be? I would erase the death of my mom.  I would love for her to be alive today to see her grandchildren.
When you looked in the mirror this morning, what was the first thing you thought? I haven’t gotten out of bed yet, but usually I avoid the mirrors until after the shower.
What were you doing at midnight last night? Sleeping- Teachers aren't supposed to be crabby from a lack of sleep!
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten? Crocodile…tastes like chicken.
What do you want to know about the future?  I would like to know the lottery numbers so that I could spend my time writing.
What's your heritage? My family is English, Welsh, Romanian, and Swiss.  We are a mixed bunch.
What's your favorite pizza?  Pepperoni and Mushroom, please.
What's one thing scientists should invent? I would love for scientists to invent a way for us to travel without driving, like teleportation.  Long car drives with small children would be a thing of the past.
What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?  I love to read and take naps.

Have you always wanted to be a writer? Yes, I’ve always wanted to be a writer.  I started out writing very sappy love poetry and my own songs.

Monday Interview with Alex Hunter from Second Time's the Charm

Character Interview with Alex Hunter

M: Hello Mr. Hunter.  Welcome.  I’m excited to sit down and talk with you about your recent love story.  Can I call you Alex?
A: Thank you Melissa.  Feel free to call me Alex.  I’m also looking forward to people hearing more about my sweetheart, Lissa.  She's amazing.  I couldn’t believe that I'd been hoping to meet her for about six months before fate brought us together. Even more amazing is that she was able to take a chance on me after all that my ex said about me.

M: What do you love about Lissa?
A: Lissa is a kind and caring person.  She wouldn’t harm a fly.  Her children are first in her life.  She is an outstanding mother.  I don’t like how Steve, her ex, treats her.  He brow-beats her and puts her down.  Would you believe that he calls her daily to complain about how she is raising the boys?

M: That sounds frustrating. I can’t imagine how hard it must be for her.  How did you and Lissa meet?
A: Lissa is best friend’s with my ex-wife, Chloe.  They work together at a local pediatrician’s office.  Chloe has been talking about Lissa for a long time.  When Chloe told me that Lissa was going through a divorce, I wanted to reach out to her but wasn’t sure that she would be interested in hearing from me.  I was sure that Chloe had shared a lot of our issues with her.  Isn’t that what best friend’s do?  I was positive Lissa had a skewed image of me.  But when Joe, my son was taken to the emergency room with possible meningitis, Lissa was the one who called me to let me know.  When I saw her sitting in that ugly waiting room, I couldn’t believe how beautiful she was and couldn’t take my eyes off her.

M: What is the most romantic night you’ve had with Lissa?
A: I pulled out the stops the one night with dinner at my place.  I had candles lit and soft music playing.  The food was amazing and it was the night that I wanted to show Lissa just how much she meant to me.  Everything was designed for a night of passion.

M: You mentioned that you have a secret sweet tooth.  What is your favorite dessert?
A: Chocolate is my favorite.  When Joe was in the hospital, I had gotten a couple of candy bars.  The chocolate was melting on my fingers and I could only imagine licking the chocolate off Lissa’s body.  When she came to Joe’s party, she brought her special recipe brownies.  It was then and there that I knew she was the woman for me!

M: Did you have any worries about getting married again, especially with the divorce rate being so high for second marriages?
A: Yes, I had fears.  My largest fear was bringing the boys together.  I was pleased that they were already such good friends and loved spending time together but becoming a blended family is tough.  There are now only two parents involved but in this case, we have four sets of parents involved.  Chloe and Steve will be a part of our relationship because they are the boys’ parents.  They may not always agree with us on our choices and compromise will be important.

M: I wish you all the best with a blended family.  I understand that the benefits do outweigh the challenges but it will take work.  Thank you for coming by today to share with us about your relationship with Lissa and your life.  Is there anything else you would like to share?
A: I want everyone to read my romance tale of love. Afterall, Melissa you did spend a lot of time and energy to bring out story to life. I know we sort of took over your brain for awhile. At least you have it back to your self now.  I have to ask the readers…  Would you have taken a chance on dating your best friend’s ex-husband?  I am certainly glad that Lissa did.  Second Time’s the Charm is available at Bookstrand, All Romance, Amazon and Barnes and Noble for only $1.99.  Pick it up today!

Blurb:
How does a middle aged, divorcee with two children find her way back to love after a devastating divorce leaves her with no self confidence and no faith in love? Lissa's ex-husband has shredded her self-esteem so she's thrown herself into her children and her work, leaving time for nothing else.

When a life threatening illness in her best friend's family puts Lissa on the path to romance, Lissa finds love in a most unexpected way--introduced by her guy's ex-wife.

Who knew that first time loves could lead to second chances?

An Interview with Melissa Keir

Welcome to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.

Today we’re presenting Author: Melissa Keir

1) Have you alwas wanted to be an author?
(MK) No. I haven’t always wanted to be a published author although the idea of a writer has been on my mind floating around for a long time. When I was in middle school and high school, I wrote stories and poetry about the students in my class. When my boyfriend joined a fraternity, I arranged for all the girls who were interested to write letters to the guys as a way to connect.
First and foremost, I’ve been a reader and loved reading passionate tales about characters I could identify with. My family and friends loved my insights into life that I wrote and urged me to share them with the world. I thought that would be my first book. But my own desire to write romances kicked in and I wrote my first story which became published just this year.
2) What genre(s) do you write?
(MK) I write contemporary romances. I would love to branch out and write other stories in the future but currently I have a few series running around in my head that are demanding my attention.
3) Have you ever self published?
(MK) No. I’ve never self-published but I also am co-owner of a publishing house and have published other people’s books. I am not ruling out self-publishing because I love that idea, I just haven’t found the time yet.
4) Who or what inspired you to write your first book?
(MK) My mom inspired me to write my first book. She wrote a romance novel when I was a teenager. She never was accepted for publishing but her excitement and determination gave me the idea that I could become an author.
I also couldn’t have done it without the support of two wonderful authors who gave me advice and urged me to write. Liz Crowe and Anne Holly have been so wonderfully helpful and are my “fairy godmothers”. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their “kicks in the pants” and shoulders to cry on.
5) How many hours in a day might you write?
(MK) I am a full time elementary school teacher so my time is limited for writing. I usually try to get some writing in at night and weekends. However, that being said, I’m also working on my work for the publishing house and writing hasn’t been as active as I’d like. :)
6) Are you a plotter or a pantster?
(MK) I am a mixture of both. I like to plan out the story line in my head and will often put pieces on paper. Sometimes I even sit down with a friend and tell them the story first before I begin writing. Most of the time, I do like to let the characters come alive and tell their own stories. They are very chatty some days.
7) Do you ever find yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your story it affects how you relate to others?
(MK) Yes, I think I do this when I’m deep into the story, especially if I’m at a crucial part. My poor family understands and comes to expect that if I’m writing, other things will have to pass. I feel sorry for them when I'm in that cranky mood as I try to finish a story. They sometimes tease me that my computer comes with me everywhere. I take my laptop with me to family gatherings and even to the doctor’s office. I try to use whatever time I can in a productive way.
8) The world is ending in an hour, what do you do, and who do you do it with?
(MK) If the world was ending in an hour, I would spend the time curled up on the couch with my husband and the dogs. I love those times when I can cuddle in his arms and take a nap. I would also want to phone my children to say goodbye.
9) If you were a cheese, what flavor would you be, and why?
(MK) This is a fun question. I would probably be Hot Pepper Jack cheese. I’m a little spicy and certainly full of zest. Yet I’m something that is a little out of the ordinary.
10) Five things you can take to a desert island, what would they be?
(MK) I must have internet on this desert island as well as electricity and shipping! Otherwise I won’t go! I need my computer laptop so that I can place orders for books and groceries then have them shipped to my island. I can’t live without my books or my soda! I also would take my dog and my husband. They will keep me happy and my final thing that I would take is an air conditioner for those hot nights. I do love to sleep with a breeze!
11) Please share an excerpt from one of your books that totally spoke to you when you put the words down on paper.
(MK). This is an excerpt from my story “Second Time’s the Charm”.

Little girls dream of romance and true love from the time they first learn about little boys. I was the little girl who dreamed of Prince Charming coming to take me away to a beautiful fantasy world where we would always be happy. When I met Steve in high school, I thought he was my Prince. We married and had kids. Then the fairy tale ended. That was the day I gave up on love.
I think that it spoke to me because I grew up on the fairy tales and believed in them. I      thought that marriage was easy and certainly all that Disney portrayed. But reality was     much different. Life has a habit of getting in the way and happiness isn’t guaranteed. In other words, our lives are what we make of it. We just have to write the story.

Thank you for having me here and for stopping by and visiting. I hope you will stop by and visit with me again soon.
