Monday's Scintillating Interview: Chloe Waits

Welcome to Craving Erotic Romance Blogspot.

Today we’re presenting one of our own authors, Chloe Waits.

1) Have you always wanted to be an author?

Yes. I loved to read from the time I was little. I went to a school sale and they gave myself and some of my friends a bunch of free Harlequins when I was a teenager. I was hooked on romance after that and eventually moved on to bodice ripper historical romances. I loved Bertrice Small. She writes very steamy love scenes

2) What genre(s) do you write?

I currently write contemporary and paranormal erotic romance

3)  Have you ever self published?

No, I novellas with Phaze and Secret Cravings Publishing

4) Who or what inspired you to write your first book?

My first real story was when I was twelve or thirteen and was in love with Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran. I handwrote 39 pages on lined foolscap paper about me interviewing Simon Le Bon for a school newspaper and him falling in love with me! I still have it. Very pg of course, but I do remember a line where I wrote: 'we kissed until our lips hurt'. A budding romance author for sure.

5) How many hours in a day might you write?

Uh, not enough. I work full time as a nurse, so I have to grab my moments when I can. I can write for hours given the chance and the inspiration.

6) Are you a plotter or a pantster?

Sort of a pantser who would love to be a plotter! I usually have a half cooked idea at least when I sit down but rarely can I see the whole plot from the start. I start writing, and ideas will hit me, and it goes from there. Causes lots of rewriting and I don't recommend it but that's the way it is.

7) Do you ever find yourself slipping away and becoming so immersed in your  story it affects how you relate to others?

Well my husband says I obsess over my writing at times so I must! I go through periods of sitting at the computer all day and not realizing how much times has passed and getting a bit obsessive.

8) Are you in any of your books?

Hmm...pieces of me certainly. I blush a lot and I find I have always identified my characters blushing too when feeling heightened emotions because I do in real life. In Irish Magic, I have an Irish American character and that is in part from my own Irish Canadian roots. So, not me per se but maybe something I can identify with at times.

9) What do your friends and family have to say about you writing?

LOL! Not many people know. If you haven't guessed, Chloe Waits is a pen name. My husband knows of course and is very supportive, and my mother knows. Yes, my mother is reading all the love scenes I write. She always wanted me to write and she supports me, although I think she wouldn't mind less heat.

10) Please share an excerpt from one of your books that totally spoke to you when you put the words down on paper.

I am going to pick an excerpt from my new release, Donovan's Blues. I have a blind hero, Donovan Strait, who is pure alpha male and hot as hell. I just love how he engages my heroine's senses in order to seduce her--all of her senses, with the exception of  sight; and this allows Donovan to position himself against men who are more superficial, and therefore less erotic and enticing.

"Touch, like sound, is very powerful. It’s one of the most powerful senses.” Donovan traced his fingertips over Amanda’s wrist, over the pulse thrumming there.
“Are you excited Amanda?”
“Yes,” she whispered. In truth, she was very excited, more so than she could remember being by any man. Any remaining reservations vanished under his expert seduction.
“By me?”
He smiled, already knowing the answer. His voice dropped a few octaves. “You’re wondering what it would be like to be made love to by a man that knows things other men
don’t…who can see you with his hands. Who could touch you in ways other men cannot.”
Amanda didn’t answer. She drew shallow breaths as graphic images flitted through her mind. His grip tightened reflexively on her wrist. Sensual awareness flooded Amanda. Her heightened pulse, her uneven respirations told him everything he needed to know, and he read her like an open book, as though her body was braille.
“A lot of men are only interested in what they see in women. What they narrowly define as beauty. With one, lone sense. They don’t appreciate a woman’s voice. The way her breath quickens as her excitement grows. The scent of her arousal. The smell of her perfume when she’s gone. People are meant to be tactile. Do you know the softest part of a woman’s body? Most men would say her thighs. What about the inside of her wrist? The area behind her knee. The underside of her upper arm. The webbing between her fingers and toes…?”
Donovan raised Amanda’s hand, pressing her delicate wrist against his full lips as his fingers laced briefly with hers.
Her skin burned with his touch and sparks lit up along her spine.
“Her lips, the area behind the ear…”
His hand touched her hair, trailing over the earlobe underneath and moving behind the shell of her ear, to Amanda’s sigh. She swore the whorl of his thumb left an imprint on the tender area, scoring it with heat.

11) Which actor/character(s) would play the starring role?

I am actually seeing a young Mickey Rourke with longish hair and sunglasses, sexy, mysterious and charismatic; attractive but not classically good looking.

Open Mike Saturday- Book Trailers Are They Worth It?

Book Trailers- Are They Worth It?

Sitting in the movie theater, small snippets of upcoming movies scroll across the screen tempting you to come back and see another movie. These movie trailers hit You Tube and are shared among fans who can’t wait to see their upcoming favorite series or hot hunk in his new starring role. We know that movie trailers are great promotions and draw many people into seeing

Book Trailers:
More and more authors are using the idea of movie trailers for their books. These book trailers are becoming more widespread as authors are trying to find new ways to promote their books and bring in more sales. But do they work?

Most authors that I’ve spoken with as well as research has shown that book trailers DO NOT increase book sales although a book trailer does add some additional pizzazz to your website and make a wonderful addition to your book’s promotions. They are not what drives people to buy your book.

The discussion most people have is about the quality of the book trailers and how they are used. Just like a poorly made cover, a poorly made book trailer can actually turn off a potential reader. They feel that if the trailer is shoddy, then the book or the writing must be. On the site Book Blogs (here), they had an ongoing discussion on the value of book trailers which I found very interesting. Specific points were addressed about the use of book trailers for promotion. Another site ezine articles (here) gives you some ideas about promotions for your book trailer which is very helpful.

My Own Experiences:
I myself use book trailers on my website as a value added feature to my book. When I design a page on the website about my book, I include the blurb, cover and excerpt in addition to a book trailer. I feel that it gives another glimpse at my story through my eyes. With book trailers, you decide on the way your characters appear and the main points you want to highlight about the book. The trailers haven’t increased my sales but provide readers with a bonus feature like a music playlist. I’m not skillful with the movie programs yet so I’ve contracted with two people to create the book trailers for me. They each have a unique style to their trailers that fit my stories. The cost of book trailers ranges from about $20-$100 or even higher depending on the quality of the product.

The Future of Book Trailers:
The future of book trailers is wide open. While many people aren’t seeing them as useful for sales, they may become a big part of promotion. Authors can use them at book signings to entice readers to “see” their books. Book trailers may even be included with the purchase of an e-book as added value like the extra features on your favorite DVD’s. Who knows…we may even see book trailers on our local movie screens showcasing the latest book by some of our favorite authors. Only time will tell.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on book trailers. I’ve posted a couple of mine for you to see. Have they worked for you? What do you like about a book trailer? What ways will you use them? What do you see for the future?

T.G.I.F. Hunk...Tom Hardy!

For the inaugural T.G.I.F Hunk Day I feature a man who I know is well loved by many women:

Tom Hardy...a bit of yummy hunkdom for you all.  Born September 15th, 1977, this British import was once a model before he turned to acting, and has already starred in numerous noteworthy films, such as Bronson, Warrior, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and played an evil baddie Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, the newest in the Batman franchise.

Tom is no stranger to romance though, having played one of the most beloved heroes in romantic literature, Heathcliffe. In typical actor fashion, he fell in love with with his leading lady Charlotte Riley, who played Catherine, causing a bit of a scandal since both these actors were attached to other people at the time. (We always knew Heathcliffe and Catherine were meant to be, and this only proves it!)

Heathcliffe about to ravish Catherine...swoon-worthy!

In addition to being a great actor, Tom Hardy also does not shy away from a nude scene, which is very drool-worthy. To see A LOT more of Tom click here : http://perezhilton.com/2011-03-22-tom-hardy-nude-scene-sergeant-slaughter-my-we-big-brother which takes you to Perez Hilton's site and has a clip of Tom in a movie your eyes won't believe. Yup. Full Frontal. Fanning self. I watched it for research purposes for this post, the work Chloe must endure....
Anyway, there is a bit of Tom Hardy this Friday for you all, hope your cup of hunk was tasty today. Have a great day everyone

PS. I don't own Tom, any photos or rights to him (sob!). All copyright to their owners. Facts courtesy of wikipedia.

Thanks Tom! I like my coffee with lots of cream...

Here is Tom and his sexy tattoos, for those that want more of Tom, but not quite all of him.

I love writing about the five sisters. Having grown up myself in Amherst, Ohio. The town holds so many wonderful memories about summers swimming in the quarry holes and playing among the sandstone blocks. I loved the feeling of safety as I rode my bike around town visiting with friends or causing mischief. The holidays were even more special with the dusting of snow and lights decorating local homes and businesses. A three-story Santa Claus figure stood outside the favorite food hangout (and is still there today).

When you read one of the Wilder Sisters stories, you get to return to my hometown with me and enjoy that little slice of heaven. I invite you to visit Amherst, Ohio along with the Wilder Sisters who each find out that home is really the one place you can come back to!

Latest news

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that Total-e-bound has accepted a 17,500 word piece to include in their anthology "At Your Service". It will be issued later as a single.  Called Memoirs of Lady Montrose, it involves a gardener, a Lord and of course Lady Helen Montrose. I'm halfway through a follow on piece concerning Mr. Christopher Mortlock, the gardener.
I've filled out the cover art details and will await the editing process.
It will be a new experience with a new publisher and a new(ish) genre for me.
Cheers Deryn
